The GRAND Total.....

As of today, our final day for having collected money for our fundraiser, our grand total is:

$17,348.36!!!!
Mr. Cadet will be coming back to the middle school in May to speak to the students about his work in Haiti and what their contributions have done.  By the end of March, the Restavek Foundation will have opened 11 schools in the area of the capital city, which serve to educate over 3000 children affected by the earthquake.  Our money will be enough to support 5 schools for a year each, with $2348.36 left over for extra needed supplies, food, and tuition costs for students who couldn't otherwise afford it.  The earnings of the LMS community are the equivalent of the annual salaries of 44 Haitian adults--WAY TO GO!!

In an email from the Restavek Foundation, we see their gratitude for all of our hard work:

"Thank you again so very much for all your support!!!
On behalf of Ray & Joan Conn, Desha,  Jill Mairn, & Jean-Robert, I just wanted to again say how much we appreciate Loveland School’s partnership!  Wow- it’s unbelievable actually!
Your generosity and all of Loveland’s is allowing our team on the ground to make an immediate impact in so many children’s lives. Your resources, time, and support is helping us to rebuild a stronger, healthier, Haiti long term and for that we are so truly grateful!

With gratitude,

Elizabeth N. Hendel

Last Call!!

After a very successful month of March that has followed our DB tournament, we have collected quite a bit more money for our Hope for Haiti campaign.  We have had some generous individual donors as well as some more groups who have contributed--including the 5th grade student council, who held a "Hop for Haiti" last night and raised $220.25!  Our grand total at this point is: $17,114.28!!  That is $2114.28 over our original goal!!

We are still collecting money through the end of the school day on Wednesday, March 24th and we will then close the account and write the check to the Restavek Foundation.  Mr. Cadet, former Haitian slave, founder of the organization, and speaker at our DB tournament will be coming back in May to speak to our students about Haiti, child slavery, and where the money is going and how it will help to build and maintain schools to give students a future.  We are very, very lucky to have him come to our school--he has been on CNN, Oprah, 60 Minutes, and was personally invited by Bill Clinton to attend a world summit in April on global childhood slavery.

If you, your student, or family are interested in reading his autobiography before he arrives, it is well worth the read and is an inspiring story about a man who has overcome more adversity than one could imagine.  It is called: Restavec; from Haitian Slave Child to Middle-Class American and can be purchased on the Jean Cadet Restavek Foundation website (all proceeds go to the foundation) or on Amazon.com.  Both places are selling it for $25.00.  *Warning that there are some parts that are very graphic and may need adult support and supervision.*

If you would like to give any final donations to the cause, please send them to Mrs. Pecsok in room 61 by 2:30 on Wednesday!

Thank you again for all that you have done to help!!!

The number becomes more impressive by the day!

Believe it or not, we STILL have donations coming in regularly!  We've had piggy banks donated, grandparents of LMS students sending donations, and funds are still coming in from various community service projects students have implemented!  We continue to be so proud of this community and all it has done to support the future education of Haitian children.  The new total as of today is: $16,284.40!!  We will be accepting donations through Wednesday, March 24th.  If you have any questions, please contact Mrs. Pecsok: pecsokhi@lovelandschools.org.

Extension of the Deadline....ALL BECAUSE OF 5TH GRADE GENEROSITY!!

We will be extending our bank account deadline even further....we will not be closing it until Wednesday, March 24th due to the fact that the 5th graders will be having a dance on March 18th called "Hop for Haiti!"  Admission will be $2.00 and it is for 5th grade only.  They would like to donate the proceeds raised to the Restavek Foundation! :)

Also, our most recent total is:  $16,030.10!!  This is outstanding!  Keep those donations coming!!

Mr. Jean-Robert Cadet will be returning to speak at Loveland Middle School in May.  We will present him with an over-sized The Price is Right! style check with our total amount!  Please stay tuned for details about his presentation. :)

We made it to Cincinnati.com!!  Visit the link:  Loveland students "true citizens of the world"

*As a side note:  If you donated a baked good item for our concessions the night of the DB tournament, and it was in a Tupperware or on a decorative plate, please have your child pick up the container or plate from Mrs. Pecsok's room 61 ASAP.  We have several unclaimed containers that need to be returned to their homes! :)
